Projection
Projection involes attributing your own unaccepale thoughts or feelings on to someone else or something. (1) There are three types of projection. The first is neurotic projection which is when people may attribute feelings, motives, or attitudes they find unacceptable in themselves to someone else. The second, complementary projection which is when poeple assume other think the same way they do. The third, complimentary projection is the assumption that others can do the same thing as well as oneself. (7)

Examples
1. A husband who has a hostile nature might attribute this hostility to his wife and say she has an anger managment problem.
2. "She hates me” instead of expressing what is actually felt, which is “I hate her.” (7) |
